Thermo King, a New Zealand Owned and Operated Company, is a provider of transport temperature control applications and service facilities for all makes and models of transport refrigeration units.
A local electrical company came to us in the first stages of the Thermo King Palmerston North new build. The challenge for us was to design and build a customer-specific outdoor plugboard for refigerated trucks on standby, that can survive in an industrial environment with continuous use of mechanics and drivers. The RCDS needed to be accessible without exposure to live parts so mechanics and drivers could reset them if necessary.
The Solution:
We used a combination of Ensto Cubo P and IDE Star enclosures, both fitted with PDL outdoor power outlets.
The Cubo P system is a combinable enclosure system that can be expanded in the future if need be. This adaptability allowed us to use this system for the larger board which required 3 phase RCD protected outlets. There is no need to worry about this becoming brittle as it is NZ UV stable and has IK08 impact resistance and IP65 ingress protection level. The tinted door allows access to the MCBs and RCDs without giving access to the live parts. Once the door is shut, this becomes dust, water, and vermin proof, while the tinting helps to prevent UV light damage to the internal components.
For the smaller board, we used the Star enclosure system as it was a better size and more cost-effective solution. The sealed and tinted door allows access to the MCBs and RCBOs while protecting any live parts in the space beneath. With an impact resistance of IK08, the enclosure will last the distance and withstand years of constant use and exposure to the elements.
